We are observing a world that is spinning out of control and wonder why. Slowly, to the point of going unnoticed, we have turned from "One nation under God, indivisible," to the fractured godless nation that we find ourselves living in. While those who revered God and who elevated God were in the past sought, now people have largely abandoned any connection with God and seek validation from the godless media, or from godless society. What we are seeing unfold before our eyes is a nation which has largely abandoned God. Most children are raised in godless households, sent off to godless colleges to be taught by godless professors, who go on to worship godless celebrities from television and sports, and continue to be influenced by the godless media and godless politicians. Do we really have to wonder why things have gotten so bad?

We read in Psalm 127:1, "Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain." Such a simple verse, yet so profound. What is the foundation upon which we build our family, our careers, our cities, etc.? There was a time when each segment of American society largely centered around God, but not anymore. Jesus said in Matthew 7:23-27, "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on the house; and it fell. And great was its fall." What we are witnessing in our nation is decades of building on the wrong foundation to the exclusion of God. Our King, has largely been eliminated from society. Godless times like ours are strewn throughout the pages of history, as we read of one of those periods in Judges 21:25, "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes."

So, what do we do now? Return to God! If you never got to know Him, get to know Him for the first time. If you have allowed yourselves to drift, return to Him; He is always ready and willing to receive you back, no matter what you have done. It is time for households to focus less on worldly things. Rather than being consumed with activities, socialization, success, etc., we need to remember, "Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it;". As our children get older, some living in our homes, some outside; we can spend sleepless nights worrying about them, but "Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain." It is never too late. Our children and those who we can influence remain as potential opportunities unless we wrongly choose to stop our influence. If your children are participating in godless activities, perhaps even joining the riots and participating in dismantling our cities, what is the response. Where is your moral outcry? Overlooking such behavior won't help. Throwing up our hands, believing there is nothing to do, also won't help. It is time for the people of God to move forward intentionally in the will of God. If we move forward, the Holy Spirit will empower us. This is not a time to surrender to the godless behavior that surrounds us. As Paul reminded Timothy, may we all be reminded, in 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
