We read in Romans 8:37, "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." In the flesh, we approach a conflict or an obstacle, and hope to be victorious. But here we read that in the Spirit we enter the battle having already won. We worry and struggle in this life because we miss this point and fail to live by it.

Does that mean that we walk through life haphazardly and unprepared? Of course not. But no matter the outcome, we win in the long run if we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Though what we might face may appear insurmountable, we read in Romans 8:31, "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" If the outcome is not what we had planned for or hoped for we can read Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." If we falter during the battle and feel guilty as a result of not leaning on Him and trusting Him as we should , we can read Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." If we forget this and feel that we have done something that God could never forgive us for, we can read Romans 8:38-39, "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." We see this attitude of being "more than conquerors" being played out in the lives of Daniel's three friends: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Being ordered to bow down before the gold statue and refusing they were given one more opportunity to recant their decision prior to being thrown into the fiery furnace to die. We read their response in Daniel 3:16-18, "..."O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up."

So, if we are more than conquerors, why do we choose to live like we are not? Because despite what we say, so often we think that we know what is better and we don't fully trust God to give us what is best. We don't get into that college which we feel is the right one? Perhaps God knows the problems and friends that would have steered us into the wrong direction. We don't get that job, or that spouse, or that child that we feel we deserve or need? Perhaps God knows better what we need to live a life which glorifies Him. We who have repented and accepted Christ's offer of salvation and have received the power of the Holy Spirit, are filled with unimaginable power, yet often we forget this when facing obstacles in our daily lives. We are more than conquerors and should never forget that. Even death cannot defeat us as Paul wrote in Philippians 1:21, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
