A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...
David's heart and passion for God are unmistakable. We read in 1 Chronicles 11:9, "So David went on and became great, and the Lord of hosts was with him." When David walked with God, his life was amazing. Whenever David walked away from God or trusted in his own logic, David failed. David's desire to bring the ark of God into Jerusalem was a good thing. But we read in 13:1, "Then David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader." David's problem in this action is that rather than consulting God or Scripture, he consulted with his military leaders for advice. We read in 13:7, "So they carried the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart." The ark stumbled, Uzza put up his hand to steady the ark, then we read what happened in 13:10-12, "Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzza, and He struck him because he put his hand to the ark; and he died there before God. And David became angry because of the Lord's outbreak against Uzza;...David was afraid of God that day...". David's mistake and lack of counsel with God resulted in Uzza losing his life. We read in 14:10, "And David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?" The Lord said to him, "Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand." David learned a serious and costly lesson, to inquire of God before making decisions. The result was a military victory. We will read in the next chapter, how David successfully resumes his desire to bring the ark into Jerusalem to make God the center of their lives. But his time he does it God's way.
We never know when our enemy, the devil, will attack us. We can make a choice to walk through life unprepared and accept the damage that results, or we can remain steadfast in Him and go through life with the confidence of knowing that He will never leave you and never forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). The best of human logic and wisdom is laughable compared to the incomparable wisdom of God. So, if you have fallen out of this relationship, get back into it again today. Our time with God is essential for life on this earth and for our path to eternity.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
The knowledge of God and the remembrance of His all-seeing presence are the most powerful means against hypocrisy.
Richard Baxter (1615-1691)
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
